Yes! It did have something to do with the afro I was sporting at the time!

Writer's Block: Take My Advice

What piece of advice do you wish you could take?

Don't worry!
So many times I have heard that comment, but taking that advice AND continuing to take that advice is very difficult for me.

It is so easy to let care slip into concern which in turn slips into ongoing worry. Often it is hard to stop the rollercoaster downslide.

Even though there are all the reasons in the world to know that problems pass, a great deal of self-control and focus is needed not to dwell on burdens.

Sometimes if terminating the worry cycle is beyond me, I take a walk in nature's world. A small bird winging through dappled leaves or even a surprise wild flower can help move the focus away into more delightful thoughts.

Then, the trick is, to hold the pleasure of the experience.

Writer's Block: Greatest Accomplishment

What is your greatest accomplishment? What was the journey to get there?

My greatest accomplishment is still evolving.

It all began when I was about 5. Often I would spend hours blissfully daydreaming on a swing. Nearby, I loved carefully looking at all the brightly coloured sweet peas creeping in wild abandon up a garden trellis.

When I discovered faces in the clouds, more dreams evolved in some far distant somewhere.

I remember first loving the feel of rain minus an umbrella. It was one of those "beyond heat" summer days in Australia. And suddenly, it seemed from nowhere, a sudden downpour of rain burst. I remember many people greeting the rain with a smile and arms wide open, hands turned upwards in "thank you".

Then there was the ongoing memory of my mother's Sunday baked dinner. I wanted desperately to find words for that amazing, lingering smell of baked onions. The scents of baked dinner always stirred the hunger pangs almost to desperation!

And finally, there was the amazing world of books opening up far away worlds in strange countries. There may be poems, photos, drawings as well.

I simply had to write! I wanted to capture a banquet for the senses and ideas to challenge.

Yes! I have accomplished publication with some books suitable for helping teenagers with English and have had teachers' notes published accompanying videos. But I want more!

So I blog and post comments and research the latest news and wander artwork and keep looking for that ultimate, wonderful breakthrough into a fulltime life in a writer's world.

My greatest accomplishment must be retaining the willpower to keep trying!

Perhaps one of my favourite memories must be my first experience with overseas travel. I found Drumheller in the autumn prairie Badland country of Alberta, Canada.

After a long, long drive from Regina in Saskatchewan, tasting this "land of the living skies", to the tiny village of Drumheller, I felt I was stepping back into some magical time.

The streets were lined with a huge range of dinosaur shapes. There was the amazing "walk through time" in the Royal Tyrell Museum, but there was also the the mystical Hoodoos; they represented the strangest rock shapes and colours I have ever seen.

It was an extremely windy day when I viewed these "eccentric" Hoodooos close-up.
It felt as if indeed colours were blowing in the winds of time! Just awesome!

What is your idea of a perfect world? Why do you feel this way?

A perfect human world is what we have now; perfectly fractured with personalities, challenges, events, circumstances and dreams.

I have no idea what really is a perfect world for Nature. (I am overly conditioned in human ways!) I can only imagine what Nature would like to be in her perfect world. Humanity has been too busy advancing its own specialised perfection. Nature struggles to assert her right to claim perfection in the shadow of humanity's ego.

Society has conditioned me to believe that life is all about a house and a car and a job to pay for it all plus a few fringe benefits or debts.
But secretly, I know the only perfect world is the one you make within, sculpturing your own Eden, your own happiness, The visual worlds are just castles of sand; but within the shells of humanity can be the real pearls.

Why do I feel this way? I feel simply because I feel.
